5 Oceans is a business concept centred around water consumption, disposal and pollution in the fashion industry. Fashion accounts for the use of over 79 billion cubic metres of water per year – that's enough water to fill 32 million Olympic-size swimming pools.
5 Oceans encourage transparency amongst fashion brands by creating a simple 5-star rating system. Customers can refer to the rating to better understand the brand's water footprint. To partner with 5 OCeans, brands can apply online or via post attaching required documentation and transparency reports, then 5 Oceans assign a rating of the brand's water footprint (consumption, disposal and pollution).
Brands will receive a packaged box of labels with their rating to attach to each piece of clothing. Customers can then find further information about each brand online.
